A barn that originally served as hay storage and a home for livestock is now the perfect place for a charming reception or cocktail hour. The open-air pavilion with roll-down, fabric sides is an enchanting, weather-proof reception area. A stone terrace overlooking the beautiful Pollinator Meadow and overlook garden, complete with festoon lights, is the ideal spot to dance the night away. It’s everything you could ask for and more.

Savor at River House strikes the perfect balance between elegance and character, from its 1,100-square-foot deck overlooking the river to its custom dance floor and stunning chandeliers inside. Whether you’re enjoying cocktail hour with views of the water or dancing the night away beneath the chandeliers, the venue offers plenty of memorable spaces to celebrate.

5. Whitehall House & Gardens Mansion

Whitehall is a historic mansion, known for its elegant white exterior and royal-esque reception hall. Not only that, but the property is home to several gardens, each with its own unique flair, from the Formal Florentine Garden that’s home to re-blooming hydrangeas to the Woodland Fern Garden with log stumps, eastern red cedar, and highlights of mulberry and contrasting ferns. The Garden Terrace, across from the Formal Garden, is a beautiful, convenient space for receptions, available open-air or tented.

6. Peter Dumsenill House

The Peter Dumsenhill House is a historic home that also serves as an elegant outdoor wedding venue in Louisville, KY. Built in 1869, the house is an Italian villa-style home with a wraparound porch, a spiral staircase, and a distinctive cupola. It’s now a cherished part of Louisville’s history and an excellent place to say “I do.” With charming gardens surrounding the estate, on-site dressing rooms for the couple, a large lawn for a tented reception, and the historic home itself, the Peter Dumsenhill House offers a beautiful setting for a timeless Louisville wedding.

7. Oxmoor Farm

About 8 miles outside of Downtown Louisville is an outdoor wedding venue that’s equal parts charming and historic. Established in 1787, it stood as a home for five generations of the Bullitt family, famed figures of Kentucky’s history. The original house on the grounds, built in 1791, has now expanded over the years and looks as if it’s straight out of a Jane Austen novel, with a stunning library, deep colors, exposed brick, and vintage furniture. 

The home is surrounded by rolling grassy pastures, white picket fences, and old grove trees in the background. Wedding ceremonies often take place outdoors on the lawn, with wallpaper-lined rooms inside the home for the bride and groom to get ready. If you want a charming, book lover’s haven for a venue, the Oxmoor Farms in Louisville is an option worth considering. 

8. Hazelnut Farms

There’s nothing quite like a classic outdoor barn wedding in Louisville. And what better place to do it than at Hazlenut Farms? This 40-acre property is a spacious oasis away from the city. It’s a pristinely quiet place, with no highway visibility and, instead, just rolling green hills and forests surrounding you and your guests on a day you’ll never forget. It’s a weather-friendly outdoor venue, with options for unexpected showers or blistering heat. The space can hold up to 350 guests, with full-day exclusive access to the venue upon rental. 

Perhaps the most charming spot at Hazlenut Farms is the barn. Teal doors open into a rustic space with dazzling chandeliers and high vaulted ceilings, a perfect spot to exchange vows or dance with your guests. The grounds offer several spots for a ceremony or cocktail hour, from the picturesque lakefront to the wooded areas with open meadows. I’ve experienced Hazelnut Farms’ charm firsthand while photographing Alex and Nick’s wedding there, and it’s easy to see why couples love it. The venue was great for the drizzly day and served as an elegant setting, with plenty of natural light and countless options for gorgeous photos. It also offers that quiet escape from the city while still being close enough to hotels, restaurants, and other conveniences your guests may need throughout the wedding weekend.
