After photographing weddings at venues all across Kentucky, I can confidently say that having a rain plan can completely change the feel of a wedding day, and this celebration proved exactly why.

Yes, it drizzled pretty much the entire day, and we ended up moving the ceremony indoors. But despite the forecast, this wedding still felt warm, welcoming, and full of so much love from beginning to end.

One of my favorite things about Hazelnut Farm Events in Louisville, KY is how versatile the property is. Even though we were working around rain for most of the day, I never felt limited when it came to photos.

The venue sits on 40 private acres just outside Louisville and offers so many beautiful locations throughout the property. It provides waterfront views, tree-lined paths and elegant indoor spaces. When couples browse through Hazelnut Farm Events photos, it’s easy to see why so many people fall in love with this venue.

The natural light inside is beautiful, which is a huge win on wedding days. Since Alex and Nick had to move their ceremony indoors, we spent more time inside than originally planned, and the space still photographed beautifully. 

When the drizzle finally let up for a little while, we headed outside for portraits and were able to take advantage of even more of the property. Some of my favorite images from the entire day came from those few pockets of dry weather.

Alex and Nick’s Love Story

Alex and Nick’s relationship started thanks to Nick’s sister-in-law, who introduced them at work. Four days later, they went on their first date.

Sometimes people say, “When you know, you know,” and honestly, these two might be proof of that.

Alex shared that they love spending time together watching TV shows (currently Criminal Minds), playing Mario Kart, going on walks, and trying new restaurants and coffee shops. They’re both pretty introverted and self-proclaimed “sweet tooths,” which honestly sounds like a pretty great combination.

Alex describes herself as the planner while Nick is much more go-with-the-flow. “They say opposites attract, right?” she told me. 

After spending their wedding day with them, I’d have to agree.

A Father of the Bride-Inspired Wedding at Hazelnut Farm in Louisville, KY

One of my favorite details from the planning process was hearing that Alex watched Father of the Bride (1991) on repeat while dreaming up her wedding day.

Once everything came together, it made perfect sense.

Instead of leaning into soft neutrals, Alex wanted color. Beautiful shades of yellow, orange, and pink brought so much life into every part of the day. Combined with the glow of candles, the overall design felt cheerful, romantic, and so true to them. 

The vintage-inspired wedding cake fit the vision perfectly. The classic piping details felt like a nod to the wedding inspiration she loved while still feeling fresh and fun. And don’t even get me started on the black-and-white dance floor. I loved it.
