Are you recently engaged and beginning to shop for your dream dress? While it may seem daunting to try to find the perfect dress, it doesn’t have to be scary! I’ve teamed up with Madeleine Sierakowski from Rebecca’s Wedding Boutique in Louisville, KY to answer bride’s most-asked questions and give tips to make sure you’re confident and prepared for your bridal appointment!

1. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY APPOINTMENT?

To your wedding dress appointment, you should wear full-coverage underwear in a shade of nude that matches your skin best! Most of our gowns are built with internal structure so shapewear and bras are often not necessary. Feel free to bring those along if you desire and we can decide once we try on a few dresses! We suggest a shade of nude to match your skintone with shapewear and strapless bras!

2. Who should I bring?

A lot like love, finding your wedding dress can happen when you least expect it! Bring your closest loved ones with you to your wedding dress appointment, who help you express yourself the most, who you cannot imagine this moment without!

3. Should I try on every style even if I’m set on a certain one?

Every bride is so unique and the story of how they find their wedding dress is so personal to them but we say no! If you are loving a certain style when you put it on, go for it! There is no set amount of styles a bride needs to try on before they’ll know their dress is the one.

4. When should I start shopping/ how long do dresses take to come in?

Most wedding dresses take 4-6 months to ship once ordered so if you have time, we suggest shopping 9-12 months in advance to allow plenty of time for shipping and alterations. With that said, every bride’s timeline is different and part of their story! So we have many quick-ship and off-the-rack options available. We have even helped a bride find her dream dress one day before her wedding! Wedding dresses are magical and anything is possible!!

5. Common style keywords to give your stylist?

Adjectives to describe the overall feel of your wedding are some of the most helpful keywords! There are usually certain silhouettes or details you are looking for when it comes to dresses but the most helpful thing for our stylists is when a bride can explain how she wants to feel on that special day! These words will lead us to your dress without even knowing the technical aspects of dresses you are loving!

6. Do bridal shops require a deposit to order the dress? If so, how much can I expect?

Many stores require at least a deposit to order a dress. At Rebecca’s, we ask for payment in full to order but we want to make brides dreams come true! So we are happy to work out a payment plan with brides as needed. The deposit required in these cases is typically at least 60% down with the balance being due when the dress arrives.

7. Should I ask bridal shops what size range they carry? WHAT IS REBECCA’S RANGE?

Most stores carry a variety of sizes but the amount of dresses in your size will also depend on the size of the store’s collection. We are lucky to carry a large quantity of sizes, styles, and price points in our nearly 400 gown collection! 🙂 Our collection ranges in size from 00-34 with most of our samples in sizes 6-30! Not seeing your size but want to know how you can also try on dresses? Give your local boutique a call! We have tools to help brides see almost any dress on them no matter the size! <3

8. Dress trends WE’RE LOVING!

We are personally loving all the scattered pearl details and pops of color we are seeing… And feathers- let’s not forget about the feathers! 😍
